New Finds

I am a serial op shop stalker! Once I find one which has something good in it to buy I am back nearly weekly to see what else I can get my hands on. I blame this on my Mum! I was constantly getting taken to op shops and second hand stores to get a book or see what else we could buy.

I am a big believer in recycling and I think op shops and second hand stores provide a great opportunity for things to be recycled and taken home to new homes. We are constantly throwing away far to much and this is having a devastating impact on our surrounding environments.

Rather than buy a new book from a department store or book store why not have a look at op shops and see what you can find. They are only pre-read by someone else who is kind enough to let you purchase their books at a fraction of the cost and in very good condition.

You may even find a book signed by the author, who knows what you can find its all the mystery.

In Love!!!!

I am in love with a shop I have found but was wary of entering at first.
1. because it is a bad chain store
2. I didn't think I'd find anything worth while in it

Things Home! I am going to admit sheepishly I am in love with the nick knacks you can purchase in the store. I bought a gorgeous black enamel photo frames for only $12.00! Bargain. It now sits on my bedside table with a photo of Mum holding me minutes after I was born.
I had been told about the store before but I was a bit snobbish and thought it would all be cheap things that you would find in a $2 shop. I was in Good Guys opposite Things Home and decided to have a look while I was there - what a shock I received!

I had to take some pictures on my blackberry - forgive the quality- to prove my point that these little trinkets and nick knacks would look lovely in a home.

I am in love with the pears, I think these would look lovely on a kitchen bench. Even your kitchen needs a bit of bling! In fact I would have all of these pieces in my home.

This huge silver plate would look fab with green apples piled up in the center

Pretty pears in the kitchen

I'll have this dresser in my room - I'd love getting out of bed to get ready in the mornings

Macarons & Apple Pies

Laduree Paris

Yum! The crisp outer shell and the soft gooey centre of a Macaron is all but a dream until you savour the famous French biscuit!
I am so scared to try and bake these as there are so many disaster stories all over the Internet - its a little bit off putting to be honest.
I am constantly buying recipe books full of sweet treats and I have not yet discovered a Macaron recipe in any. Slightly upsetting if you ask a sweet tooth like myself.
Constantly baking and trying new recipes is something I love doing. My ultimate dream is to own a little bakery that serves yummy sweet treats, coffees and is warm and inviting. I would love it to be the type of bakery where people come for breakfast, sitting down with loved ones, enjoying my food and the atmosphere of the bakery.

The other night I baked a scrumptious Apple Pie. I made my own Shortcrust Pastry which is so simple. Don't freak out at the thought of making your own pastry, its easy you just have to practice.
Everyone in the family loves my Apple Pie. Its easy to make and scrumptious on a cold winters night.

Winter Wonderland

Its Winter! We have had rain, wind, thunder, lightening and cold days and nights.

I found it very difficult to get out of bed today. It was so cold last night that Sonny pup jumped up on the bed - which he isn't allowed to do - and snuggled in with me.

In Perth we don't get very cold winters. Its always kept warm by the ocean. I've found this year to be surprisingly cooler. The next couple of nights are set to get to 2 degrees!

I have been looking though Summer holiday pictures trying to warm myself up. Here are some from my trip to Thailand in 2006/07! This trip was a lot of fun - Just Mum and I

Lazy Sunday Drives

When I was a little girl, every Sunday Mum, Dad, my Sister and I would pile into the car and head out on a Sunday drive. It would always be somewhere out of Perth's hustle and bustle, nestled in the countryside somewhere.

As my Sister and I grew older these became less customary. While eating breakfast last Sunday morning it was decided that we would get in the car and go on one of our Lazy Sunday Drives!

They were always so much fun. Looking through antique shops and experiencing the country life style, playing I-Spy, and tasting the scrumptious pies the small cafes would have to offer. One of my favourite cafes just out of Perth is in Jane Brooke. It has 2 houses which are now the cafe and a gallery, and a HUGEEEE old gum - I think it would nearly be 7m in diameter.

We set off in the car less my Sister, heading for a town called Toodyay just over an hour east of Perth. It was less than 1 year ago Toodyay was devastated by bushfires where so many lives were destroyed. Driving into the town you can see the burnt bush coming back to its former glory, but it wont be the same for many decades yet.

Toodyay is infamous for its Cola Cafe. It is a cafe and museum showcasing one of the best Coca Cola collections I have seen to date. It is reminiscent of a '50s style cafe - very cool!

After finishing our drinks and a yummy bacon & egg sandwich, we headed off to browse through a few antique shops and some cute country style shops. This is where I found my latest purchase!

This is it! A gorgeous old bottle. I collect these and have them sitting on my dressing table with my perfume and old antique perfume bottles.

We finished up and made our way back to Perth just as the sun was setting over the rolling hills. It was a fun day and I cant wait until the next Lazy Sunday Drive!

How was your weekend?

How was your weekend? I hope you made the most of it. The weather in Perth this weekend was one of those magical winter days you only dream about. Sunny and warm - perfect for a drive in the car and looking around small towns outside of Perth.
Stay tuned for pictures of my antique purchase!
Enjoy the remaining few hours of the weekend and Ill see you all soon!

Im Back!!!!

After taking a much needed break away from the many worlds which surround me and sometimes suffocate me, I am back fresher than I have ever been.

I will be posting about 3 times a week, maybe more! I promise it will be better than it has been, and I will be writing about many different subjects - controversial and all!

I cannot wait to hear from you with your thoughts and comments.
